Getting Started with Pika Labs
If you're new to Pika Labs and haven't experienced creating animations and videos with this AI yet, don't worry! I have a step-by-step tutorial on my YouTube channel that covers the basics of creating videos and animations with Pika Labs. I highly recommend watching that tutorial first as a complimentary resource to this tutorial.
First, visit the Pika Labs website and connect to their Discord server. By joining their server, you'll have access to generate videos and animations using their AI system. Enter one of the Pika Discord rooms and execute the command "SLC create" to configure camera parameters, FPS, aspect ratio, and motion. In the prompt section, click outside the prompt and execute the image command to upload the image based on which you want the video to be generated.
After a short while, the video will be generated, and you can play and download it using the download button. If you're not satisfied with the video, you can instruct the Pika bot to create different variations using the button below the video frame. All your commands go into a queue, and after a short period, your videos will be generated. Review and download the new videos. By default, the videos generated by Pika Labs have a duration of 3 seconds.
Extending the Video Duration
To increase the duration of the videos, you'll need video editing software. It doesn't matter which software you use, whether it's Final Cut Pro, Da Vinci Resolve, CapCut, or an online platform like Canva. The process is the same across all software.
In my case, I'll be using Adobe Premiere Pro. Launch the software and click on the "New Project" button. Enter a name for the new project and specify the project save location. After creating the project, right-click in the project window and select the "Import" option to bring in Video 1.
From the file menu, click on "New Sequence" and choose a full HD sequence from the presets. Give a name to the sequence and drag and drop Video 1 onto the timeline. If the dimensions don't match, you may encounter a clip mismatch warning. Click the "Keep Existing Setting" button and reduce the timeline zoom.
To create an image from the last frame of Video 1, navigate to the last frame using the next and previous frame buttons in Premiere Pro. Increase the timeline zoom and use the "Export Frame" button to create an image. Enter a name for the image, set the format to JPEG, and specify the save location.
Upload this image to the Pika server on Discord and generate Video 2 based on it. Return to the Discord server, enter one of the Pika Discord rooms, execute the command "SLC create" to set the camera parameters, and upload the output image. Video 2 will be generated based on this image.
Now that you have Video 2, bring it into Premiere Pro by dragging and dropping it onto the timeline after Video 1. Right-click on Video 2, choose "Scale to Frame Size" to match the sequence, and ensure that Video 1 and 2 are seamlessly aligned. By repeating this process multiple times, you can bypass the 3-second limitation of Pika videos and animations and create much longer videos and animations for a single plan.
Exporting the Final Video
After completing the editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, you can export the timeline. Click on the "Export" option, enter a name for the output file, choose the storage location, set the preset to high quality full HD, and make sure the format is set to h.264. Click on "Export" and after a short period, your output file will be rendered and ready.
